Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 16, 2026
EthoScan helps you check whether beauty and personal-care brands are cruelty-free and whether products are vegan. It is built to be privacy-respecting by default.
What EthoScan does
- Browser extension: On supported retailer product pages (currently Sephora and Ulta), the extension reads the on-page brand name, product name, and ingredient list, and sends those text values to EthoScan's servers to look up a cruelty-free and vegan verdict, which is shown back to you on the page.
- Website: You can type or search a brand or product name to get the same verdict.
What we don't do
- No account or sign-in is required to use the checker.
- We do not track your browsing history. The extension only runs on supported retailer product pages and only reads the product you are currently viewing.
- We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent your data.
- We do not use your data for any purpose other than returning ethical-shopping verdicts and improving the accuracy and coverage of those verdicts.
Information we process
- Product information: brand name, product name, and ingredient text from the page you are viewing, sent to our servers to compute a verdict.
- Basic technical data: standard server logs (such as timestamp and request IP address) used to operate and secure the service. These are not used to identify you and are retained only as long as needed for security and reliability.
Data we store
We may cache brand-, product-, and ingredient-level verdicts (not tied to you) to make future lookups faster and to improve coverage and accuracy. This cached data does not identify individual users.
Waitlist and contact (optional)
If you choose to join our waitlist or contact us, we collect the email address you provide and use it only to respond or to send updates you requested. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
Third parties
EthoScan's verdict lookups are processed by our infrastructure providers (database, hosting, and search providers) solely to operate the service. We do not share your information with advertisers.
Children
EthoScan is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
We will update this page if our practices change and revise the date above.
